Cup Keeper must be a pretty cool job, but that guy has got to be getting exhausted by all the travel.

Gonna be a party in Finland!

And hopefully Alt makes a strong push and shows he's ready to step up to the NHL. That would be a good problem for the Flyers to have.

cool story from the draft. i wonder how often teams end up sharing and agreeing on something like that, if the flyers were going to give up a 3rd to have that revealed I wonder what they were to gain.

Ha Ha Ha. Hextall's mantra... "why don't you give me all of your information and how about I give you none?" Gotta love Hextall.

Interesting cat and mouse game at the draft. Honestly I thought these GMs would have a better idea on what players other teams are targeting

Trust is such a big part of this of course. Am I wrong that nothing would be binding in this situation?

So, just to get this straight:

The Flyers, prior to their pick at 7, are offering to give Columbus a 3rd round pick if they'll divulge who they will take at 8, as the Flyers want to make sure "their guy" (Provorov) will be available if they trade back to 9.

That's all well and good, but wouldn't they also have to get assurance that the team they're trading with (San Jose?) won't take him, as well? Also, I thought there had to be assets moving both ways in a trade, and that "future considerations" is no longer allowed, so how can they just give away a 3rd?

probably depends how close the two GM's are that determines how much they share or trust each other when dealing.

like I assume because Montreal and Winnipeg's GM's worked together in Chicago if those three teams were talking it would be very open and honest as there seems to be a ton of mutual respect. ( I noticed at the draft that only Montreal and Winnipeg congradualated Chicago on the cup ) where I dont think if Kevin Lowe and Brian Burke were talking there woulod be much honaesty or trust lol

Nicely said regarding ranking the prospects. I think you can make a very good case that Provorov and Sanheim are clearly the top 2 prospects in the organization, but after that it really becomes subjective.

They're not giving away a 3rd. Flyers are trading the 7th overall pick for the 9th overall and a 3rd round pick.

Bettman: "Okay Ron...you see, Chris Pronger has accepted our offer to be part of our disciplinary board, so he's going to have to retire and you'll have to deal with his full cap hit."
Hextall: "Gary, look, I honestly don't like you at all. You remind me of Chris Chelios."
Bettman: "Well I...I mean, it's only fair that he have to retire...
Hextall: "Gary, do you want to ask Kent Nilsson what happens to people when they piss me off?"
Bettman: "You know what, never mind the whole thing, Mr. Hextall. We'll take care of it."

From Bill:
Along the way, the Flyer floats an offer of one of the Flyers' two third-round picks if the Blue Jackets will reveal whom they play to take with the eighth pick.

Unless I'm misreading or Bill is wrong, the Flyers are offering CBJ a 3rd rounder if they'll declare who they're taking at 8.

Nice work Bill. There seem to be a number of Flyers defensive prospects that have been on the cusp of making the big club only to sustain an injury they never quite recovered from or in the case of Tertyshny, death. I hope this new group has better luck.

I would be saddened, but not shocked, if Provorov, Morin, Sanheim, Ghost, Hagg, and Alt all suffered career-ending eye injuries this coming season.

I always liked this video (although Cronin's on the wrong end):

Were I Cronin, I'd be furious with that first linesman for not really restraining Brown while the other linesman had him (Cronin) locked up.

I think Bill misunderstood. Kekäläinen's commenting that the Flyers have a chance to pick up a third to move back, and Hextall was fishing to see who Columbus wanted.

Also, in the previous thread Jsaq mentioned that Toronto offered the 4th for all of Columbus' second round picks. I think the actual offer included Columbus' 1st round pick as well. He later mentions he'll take his chances to get his guy and have "four players" instead of one.

And if you think about it, what team wouldn't trade 3 seconds straight up for the 4th overall pick in the draft.

Future considerations is no longer allowed but conditional draft picks -- with conditions unlikely to be met -- are permitted.

For instance, when the Flyers acquired Kent Huskins from Detroit a few years ago, they traded a conditional 7th round pick (the condition being that the Flyers re-signed the impending UFA). Both sides knew all along that wasn't going to happen. But that was a legal way for the Flyers to get a much-needed extra body when they were riddled with injuries and for Detroit not to have to play a player they had no intention of starting again.

I don't know what would have been coming back from Columbus apart from info. Whatever it was is not revealed in the video.
